Alisa Connan - our latest girl-crush

We are crushing on Alisa Connan. She has been with us through some of our most important shoots and campaigns and we could not be more excited to have her.

Alisa is known for her keen ability to ease even the most nervous personalities with an abundance of beauty and honesty in the moments that are created between her and the people she is photographing.
Born in Melbourne, she moved to London and worked for Rankin at his East London studio after graduating from the RMIT University. She has since worked with some of the biggest names in the industry; Rosamund Pike, Miranda Hart and Alicia Vikander are only some of the stars she has shot.
We wanted to offer you an exclusive glimpse into what it takes to create those special Bluebella moments that are key to our campaigns and to how we present our beautiful lingerie and nightwear. We interviewed Alisa exclusively to introduce you to one of the most exciting photographers on the London scene.

What would you say is your style? Who is your style icon?
Casual and relaxed with a few key pieces. In terms of an icon @DressLikeAMum is pretty awesome, she’s hilarious and has great style tips whether you’re a mum or not.

What do you like most about shooting lingerie?
I like to work with brands that have real women in mind and are not feeding into the hyper-sexualized imagery we often see where woman are seen as submissive.  My favorite images to shoot capture real moments that are powerful, intimate & sensual in the stories my team and I create.

What is your favourite image that you have ever shot?
Probably one of my daughter.

Who is your favourite celebrity to work with?
The shoot with Alicia Vikander for Blackbook Magazine was fun. It was her birthday so we got to have cake afterwards too.

What has been your favourite moment in your career so far?
It was a privilege to photograph Theresa May when she was Home Secretary; she’s an incredible woman.

What inspires you the most?
That’s a hard question as inspiration is everywhere! Richard Avedon’s American West series taken between 1979 – 1984 was probably the most influential for me as it was the first book that really made me inspired to shoot people in a real and moving way.  There is so much beauty in those images amongst the rawness of his subjects' lives.

As a photographer, and an artist, do you prefer to “capture the moment” or “create the moment”?
I’ll always be the one to ‘capture the moment’ but in order to do that a lot of work needs to happen before that moment can take place!

Working with lingerie can be quite difficult, making people comfortable in their own skin is something you do very well and it reflects in your images. How do you achieve this?
Thank you!  There are a lot of elements that help with this process.  It can be really daunting having your photograph taken and I always want the experience for the talent to be fun and enjoyable.  It’s a combination of having the right team, good creative direction and connecting with the person who is in front of my camera on the day.

The Be Strong Be Beautiful campaign is one of our favourite campaigns. It has been a very inspiring and empowering campaign both for us as a company and for our customers. What was your favourite part of that shoot?
Body confidence is an issue I’m passionate about and one of the reasons I was thrilled to be involved with this shoot. My favourite part of the shoot was talking to Bryony, Amber and Stef about their body confidence issues and how sport had helped them through that. It was inspiring to work with three very different body shapes – all of them loving the skin they were in.

We are quite well known for our MORE collection. It is obviously different to the industry standard in terms of sizing. Did this influence how you shot the images?
I approached the creative for the MORE range exactly the same as any other range I’ve shot for Bluebella.  For me, that was the point.  There is a huge chunk of the population that have DD+ bust sizes and in the past they have either had to go to old-fashioned stores to get good support but the bras look terrible or buy something that looks good but with no support.  It’s exciting there is now something fashion-led and supportive available.

At Bluebella we create lingerie for women, to empower them and make them feel amazing. Who is your photography for?
What a good question! It’s for lots of people I guess; the talent and team on the day to energize & inspire, the audience it finds after it’s gone to print & online which is varied depending on the shoot, and lastly it’s for me. It feeds my soul.

What would you say to women that put down lingerie as “not for them”?
I’d suggest picking a piece with a detail or strap that they would want the world to see. It’s incredible how powerful it feels to have your lingerie on show on.

What is your favourite Bluebella image that you have ever shot?
One of the shots from the AW16 campaign on the brick wall. We shot the entire day outside in December in the freezing cold – our model Eva was incredible.

I presume you have a wide collection of cameras; do you have one that you like shooting on the most?
My first professional camera was a Canon and I’ve stuck with them.

Who would you like to photograph the most if you could choose anyone?
Susan Sarandon, I love everything about who she is and what she does.

Introducing Tigerlily Taylor - The New Face of Bluebella

Daughter of the Queen drummer Roger Taylor and supermodel Deborah Leng, Tigerlily is already a society favourite, having graced the cover of Tatler and appearing regularly in Vogue. She is signed with Select Model Management and is currently in her third year studying English at The University of Sussex after attending Bedales School.

A natural rebel, she left home at 16, though she was always very studious. She said "I was such a horrible teenager - my poor parents. But despite switching schools, I was a nerdy student who got my homework in on time. I am working incredibly hard in my final year at uni and really want to get a First."

She loves being the new face of Bluebella “because they champion female empowerment and the designs have a unique and exciting aesthetic that is redefining sensuality”. She said "I love the idea of buying lingerie for yourself and not just for your partner. It is also incredibly wearable but very sexy, too."

She adores writing poetry and short stories, and may make a move into journalism in the future but ultimately dreams of writing a novel. To add to the cool factor of her famous family, Tigerlily’s brother Rufus is the drummer in the band The Darkness.

Tiger loves concerts and festivals and goes to Glasto and Secret Garden every year. She adores listening to David Bowie, Led Zeppelin and The Who, and it’s not just her taste in music that is rock’n’roll, her style is as well. Glam rock and grungy are key to her wardrobe.

Vogue described Tigerlily and her model boyfriend Henry Pedro-Wright, 24, as "London's coolest couple". They have been together two years and are happiest lying in bed eating pizza and watching box sets.

She said: "Henry has really calmed me down, but I am never getting married. I don't believe in the institution. It takes away all the romance and I would feel trapped."

With an edgy London vibe and recognisable from the party pages around the city’s social set, Tigerlily’s latest campaign reflects the confident, stylish statement made by our lingerie and nightwear designs.

Add to the mix that her latest obsession is Muay Thai kickboxing and you see why we just had to have Tigerlily as the face of Bluebella - smart and fearless, with an edgy street style that epitomises London cool.

If You've Got It Haunt It - Bluebella Does Halloween

Something wicked this way comes!

Not sure ‘witch’ outfit for Halloween? Bluebella is here to help.

For a hauntingly fabulous Halloween, style your favourite Bluebella pieces with a smokey eye and a lot of black. Just the way we like it.
The Eliza chemise will give you the perfect "witchy" look without compromising on the class. No fake blood needed, just a bit of red lippy and a deadly cat eye.

For a more daring and seductive look Coco is your girl. Style with an eye mask for the perfect touch of hauntingly seductive indiscretion.

Etienne will give you a scarily feline look if paired with some cat ears and a smile. Oh and don't forget your (fake) fur!

Bluebella's Fashion Week Round Up

This year we are more in love with fashion than ever before.
Here at Bluebella we have always loved the lingerie-as-outerwear look but this year we have found that fashion week has embraced that look too.

From Narciso Rodriguez on it’s catwalk at New York Fashion week (steal the look with the Bluebella Gia Body) to Julian Macdonald introducing beautiful caged lace which our own Cassia Body and Top and Short do so well.

Directional strapping features have also adorned catwalks and after parties alike. A statement piece like the Alanna combines the best of both worlds - the little black dress and beautiful back details.

Long duster coats that float around your figure are also key to this season's statement pieces. A soft kimono will flow perfectly around your body and add a delicate touch to a statement look.

But Fashion week is not all about the catwalk. The FROW has also featured some of our favourite looks.

Alicia Keys rocked fishnet perfectly with a delicately pink blazer and trousers making the perfect feminine statement. Steal the look with our own Jamie T-shirt and pair with your favourite pinks.

Comfy slip dresses have also been show-stealers. What better way to get through a night of catwalks and parties than in a comfy slip dress carefully hugging your body. Wear the look with our Sephy chemise and roll straight into bed after a long night.

PYJAMA DRESSING - our new favourite look

"A woman may and does wear pyjamas to quite formal dinners in her own house, to other people's dinners in town and country if you know them well and the more iconoclastic members of the female sex even wear them to the theatre."
"Pyjamas – When are they worn?" Vogue 1 June 1931

People might think that the pyjamas as outerwear trend has only just come around from the most eclectic and forward thinking fashionistas. But this combination of style and comfort, found in a pair of sleek shirt and trouser pyjamas, has been central to wardrobes of some of the most stylish women in history.
Coco Chanel not only innovated the female style and introduced comfort to the female wardrobe but wore her silk garments with pride and paired them with her attitude for the ultimate strong female look.
Audrey Hepburn as Regina Lampert in Charade looked ravishingly stylish in all her outfits, but it was the beautiful set of navy blue silk pyjamas with white accents that really made us fall in love.
Claudette Colbert, the silent film actress, was the first one to wear a beautiful set of pyjamas on the big screen, and Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo soon followed.
Thus, pyjamas became sophisticated evening attire for casual yet stylish entertaining.
Furthermore, drawing inspiration from the wide-legged trouser of the 40s, the 60s brought forward the palazzo pant. It was a comfortable yet fashionable fit when paired with silk. Effortless comfort at it’s best.
Today pyjama dressing is a centrepiece to the chic and fabulous. Selena Gomez paired a beautiful set of pyjamas with a bold lip and sandals for the ultimate statement look. Kate Moss, the ever so modish icon, created a whole collection of pyjamas especially for dressing out.
Pyjamas were a major trend among the attendees of Milan fashion week and the style completely took over New York fashion week this year. It wasn’t only designers opting for the silky shirt look - some of the biggest fashionistas wore their nightwear proudly with chunky coats and sky-high heels.
Here at Bluebella we not only admire Chanel and so many other fabulous women that embraced this look, but we also cherish the comfort of a good set of pyjamas. We love it so much that we can’t resist wearing the Claudia and Abigail on a regular basis, both inside and outside of the house.
Whether it is to the office or on the way to Happy Hour, a pyjama shirt or trousers (or together for the ultimate statement) can be the perfect outfit accessory.
Show off your style in comfort on a night out with our Bluebella gorgeous collection. Shop the nightwear section now.
