Q&A with our #BeStrongBeBeautiful athletes

We Chat to Stef, Amber and Bryony...

As you've probably seen across our website and social channels, a couple of weeks ago we launched our summer sporting campaign called #BeStrongBeBeautiful, with the aim of starting a conversation around strength and beauty.
We've teamed up with three amazing athletes to celebrate the strong female form and to hopefully encourage women of all abilities to feel confident in enjoying sport and be proud of their bodies. We chatted to Bryony Shaw, Amber Hill and Stefanie Reid about their individual journeys and what strong means to them...

Q: How did you find taking sport seriously at a young age, was it difficult?
A: My mum remembers me when I was 15 saying I wanted to go to the Olympics, which is quite young really. It was around then when I started really training and the more and more I trained, I'd get more muscular legs and shoulders. At that age, rather than celebrate that physique I ended up being quite timid about it. At school, being sporty wasn't the 'cool' thing and I didn't like being labelled as a 'Tomboy'.
Q: How did that affect you?
A: At the time it meant for me that even though I was serious about this sport, I was actually going to cover up parts of me that I didn't feel were feminine. But in the end, I was able to escape that kind of attitude and be with like-minded people who really celebrated that physicality.
Q: How do you feel about your body now?
A: I love looking at my body now. I'm really proud and I'm happy to show it off with sleeveless tops and things. It's definitely a shift in my own self confidence and it's really helped me blossom as a person. It's quite tough for girls in sports to feel comfortable in their own skin and what I'd say for young girls getting into sport is instead of trying to fit in, try stand out... and don't be afraid to be different.

Q: What do you love most about sport?
A: I think what I love most about sport is the ownership it gives you over your body... you just learn to how to inhabit this space [of your body]. For me, I'm most satisfied with my body when I feel it reflects who I am - I want to be someone who is strong, confident and competitive and not afraid to go after what I want. Once I started realising I could do pull-ups, squat racks etc, I noticed a change and I felt really strong.
Q: Do you think that there is a wider problem that so many people don't think femininity and strength go together?
A: It's tough... but I think strength is gender neutral. I believe in equality but not sameness, males and females are different and that's fantastic. But men do not have a monopoly on strength.
Q: Why to you is strong beautiful?
A: It speaks of a quiet inner confidence. It tells a lot about a person if they are strong and where that strength comes from... it doesn't come from circumstances around them, it's internal. You can't fake it,  it is something you have to live out every single day.

Q: When you first started training for shooting, did you notice any changes in your body?
A: I used to be quite shy and didn't have a lot of confidence but I think getting involved with sport and training at the gym three times a week made my confidence grow massively. I started to feel like an athlete in myself, started to feel strong and feel in the best shape.
Q: Why do you think school girls are more likely to drop out of sport teams than boys are?
A: To compete at a high level, you need to train hard and a lot of girls see that as changing their body shape, not seeing it as feminine. I think that's where we need to start changing perceptions - strong is a normal body type. A lot of girls want to emulate what they see on Instagram, but I think we have to teach girls that you've just got to be comfortable with who you are and don't worry about what everyone else thinks... worry about what you're doing and what makes you happy.
Q: Why is being strong important to you?
A: It's the confidence that it gives me to know that I've worked hard to look like I do. My body isn't perfect but I'm on a journey and as long as I feel confident now, that's what really, really makes me feel good.

#BESTRONGBEBEAUTIFUL

Join Our Conversation This Summer...

During this incredible summer of sport, we have launched a very exciting campaign called #BeStrongBeBeautiful to start a conversation around strength and beauty.
We have teamed up with three amazing athletes to celebrate the strong female form and to hopefully encourage women of all abilities to feel confident in enjoying sport and be proud of their bodies. As Emma Watson discussed in her ‘He for She’ campaign, too many girls and women are still inhibited from following their sporting dreams due to perceived opinion around a strong female form not looking feminine. The biggest misconception is that female athletes are tomboys, their physical strength makes them unfeminine, they don’t fit into the mould of ‘the pretty girl’.
We want to teach girls that femininity does not indicate weakness, just as masculinity does not equal strength. We believe that every woman, whether she’s a fitness fanatic, a once-a-week gym goer or looking to simply start a sporting hobby, should have the confidence to work her body how she wants and be proud of her inner and outer strength.
We're proud to have worked with three incredibly inspirational women on this campaign, who are all expected to be stars of the summer - Amber Hill, Stefanie Reid and Bryony Shaw. All of them have been on their own personal journeys in regards to their bodies, confidence and strength and want to encourage women of all ages to enjoy sport and be proud of their bodies.
#BeStrongBeBeautiful is all about taking control and having the confidence to build the body you want to build, regardless of outdated ideas about femininity and muscularity. Over the next few weeks, we'll be discussing the campaign on our social media platforms and we want you to join in the conversation too! For exclusive behind the scenes footage, one-to-one interviews and much more, head over to our dedicated page now!

With summer in full swing (despite the typical British weather!), we've teamed up with our ultimate style sister and all-round blogging bombshell Nyane Lebajoa to showcase some of our must-have High Summer pieces. Thought our ranges were for covering up? Think again. This summer, it's ALL about wearing Bluebella how you want to...

 Flirty Florals

Opt for flirty florals with the Julianna's gorgeous combo set and turn your nightwear into a summer night's dream.

Playsuit Perfection

Team the Sephy playsuit with this summer's hottest accessories trend, the choker. Nyane's touch of bling gives an edgy addition to the feminine feel of the look.

Poolside Princess

Our sumptuous satin Kimonos are the perfect poolside partner and Nyane's simple yet stylish take on wearing as a swimsuit cover-up has got us seriously thinking about our #holidaygoals...

Delicate Dressing

Dare to bare? The sumptuous Julianna chemise is a gorgeous addition to any SS16 wardrobe. Just like Nyane, let your body do the talking in the sheer goodness of a mixture of mesh, lace and floral detailing!

Back To Front

Bored of the same look? Work it like Nyane and turn the Sephy back-to-front for a completely new, bang-on look that is perfect for a sassy Saturday night out!

Life's A Bluebella Beach...

Your Holiday Wardrobe Sorted...

Heading off on holiday soon? Be a poolside princess this summer by packing your favourite Bluebella pieces and styling up the ultimate sunshine-ready outfit.
Not sure where to start? We challenged some of our favourite fashion bloggers to show us how they work the holiday look with some of our key High Summer pieces. And if you're feeling inspired, head over to our dedicated Beach Collection page where you can grab all the pieces featured, plus more!

Super stylish babe Nyane Lebajoa  headed to the White Isle and showed  off her enviable curves in a show-  stopping swimsuit, finishing off her  Ibiza spirit with our satin Kimono. It's  super lightweight and makes for the  perfect pool partner... just throw it on  for effortless elegance!

Got a hotel with a view? Step out into the sunshine with one of our gorgeous chiffons, just like Milan-based Lucia Matton did with the Caitlin cami set. Its beautifully light material falls soft against the skin and is the ultimate choice when you don't want to reveal all in a bikini.

Straight in from L.A is the beautiful Brianna Lynn who shows off her beach babe look with effortless style, opting for the Caitlin cami set in black. Style tip? Wear your bikini underneath and head straight to the pool so you can dip straight in!

We love how UK fashion blogger Chloe Plumstead is styling up the pink Kimono as a gorgeous cover up to her bikini. Pink and white work so well together as beautiful holiday hues and look extra gorgeous with a sun-kissed glow!

Finally, there's no beach blog without the ultimate beach babe, Natalia Miru. Shake it up and wear the Angelina as your bikini... it's sublime shape and show-stopping white will make you centre of attention at the pool, no doubt...

I DO... BUT NOT YET. CHECK OUT OUR WEDDING SEX SURVEY!

MORE THAN HALF OF COUPLES DON'T HAVE SEX ON THEIR WEDDING NIGHT

With the wedding season well under way for the summer, we thought we'd get down to the nitty gritty and really find out what goes on between the sheets on a couple's happiest day of their lives. After a long day, lots of champagne and plenty of emotions, how many couples actually get round to consummating their marriage on the same night? We surveyed 1,000 couples to find out...

The biggest stat from our survey was that more than half of couples don't have sex on their wedding night. We found that 52% of couples didn't do the deed largely because they were too tired or too drunk.

We found that women's and men's reasons varied. Women found themselves not having sex because they were too tired (the most common answer), followed by wanting to wait for the perfect moment, being drunk or already travelling for their Honeymoon. Men, on the other hand, didn't do it largely because they were too drunk or wanted to carry on partying with their friends.

We found that a third of couples surveyed consummated their marriage the morning after and one in ten didn't get round to doing it until 48 hours after tying the knot. 84% said that the sex, when they did get round to it, lived up to their expectations.

We also quizzed Brides on whether they bought special lingerie for their big day and we're happy to say that 89% of them do!

Our founder Emily Bendell, who commissioned the survey, said:

"It’s good to see that so many couples are saying 'I don't' to wedding night sex. Couples are under so much pressure these days to have a 'perfect day' that it is refreshing that so many are defying expected norms and doing exactly what they want. If that means, saving the ‘wedding night’ until they can really enjoy it, then why not?

"It is great to see that so many brides are switching lingerie on their wedding day, too. For some brides that means wearing contour lingerie so they look amazing in their wedding dress and then something a little more provocative later... Bridal lingerie has evolved from the traditional to beautifully fashion-inspired collections."

If you're a Bride-to-be, we have a gorgeous collection of wedding-ready lingerie so that you can do romance the Bluebella way... whenever you choose to do it. Check the range out here.
